Jayne Byrd
Jayne Byrd, an associate of PECA has over 25
years experience in the field of Healthcare. She is an innovative, strategic change agent
noted for outstanding accomplishments in process engineering, cost reduction, profit
performance, and operations management. She has excellent negotiation, conflict
resolution, project management, leadership and analytical skills.She is adept in building
motivated customer-focused teams.
Ms. Byrds specific accomplishments include:
- As Operations Analyst, Ms. Byrd provided operations, marketing,
finance and staffing expertise to senior administrators of new healthcare facilities. She
worked closely with architects and administrators in needs assessment and facility
planning. She also performed cost-benefit analyses, developed budgets, created staffing
and marketing plans, and served as facilitator during implementation.
- As Director of Surgical Services, Ms. Byrd managed surgical services
for 26 operating rooms and oversaw a 32-bed post-up medical/surgical unit, with 3-day
length of stay with an OR volume of 26,000 procedures, 6,000 Endoscopy/GI procedures and
4,200 Pain Clinic procedures. She planned and administered a $31 million operating budget
with billed revenues of $65 million (23% of hospitals net revenue). She supervised
14 direct reports coordinated staff recruitment development for 342 FTEs. She
provided strategic focus through several committees. She managed unprecedented growth in
surgical services facility expansion. She developed initiated a plan for the outsourcing
of central processing volume the reusable linen program reducing costs annually by $3
million (one of the first nationally to adopt this model) negotiated vendor outsourcing
agreements. She reduced cost-per-case by approximately 50%. Ms. Byrd originated and
implemented a JIT externally prepared patient- and physician-specific case cart system for
surgical services. She led numerous technology process improvements and served on the
Advisory Board for Clinical workstations. She improved communications and patient
services. She created an in-house surgical technician training program. She devised and
implemented a standardization plan for video towers and Endoscopy/GI equipment to
integrate service delivery. She also created a strategic niche by developing a surgical
differentiation model with outpatient-specific operating rooms, resulting in increased
revenues and patient volume. In addition, she co-developed a successful Certificate of
Need requests for off-site surgery centers and for renovation of existing space. She
supervised the growth of the neurosurgery program in preparation for Level 2 Trauma
designation.
- As Director for Same Day Surgery, she oversaw implementation of
computerization of Same Day Surgery services and optimized HBOCs operating room
management system to become a center of excellence. She developed and implemented a
stockless inventory management system and created an additional OR (within CON
limitations) by reducing storage and decreasing on-hand inventory by 50%.
Ms. Byrds affiliations include: the American
Nurses Association, the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nurses, the Association of
Operating Room Nurses, the Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers of NC and the
Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association.
She co-authored How to Increase Efficiency in
the Operating Room. She was an HBOC User Group Speaker and OR Manager of the Year.
She was a volunteer for United Way, Heart Walk, Relay for Life and the Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation.
Ms. Byrd received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing
and her Masters in Nursing Administration from the University of North Carolina, School of
Nursing.
